Visiting Mongtorang Goat Farm in Taebaek, South Korea

On a perfect summer day at the end of June, I bought a bus ticket at Dong Seoul Bus Terminal heading east with the hopes of visiting the newly opened Mongtorang Goat Farm in Taebaek!

The ride from Seoul to Taebaek takes a little over 3 hours and the morning bus schedule, as of July 2021, is:
(Times under 출발 mean departure from Seoul and under 도착 mean arrival at Taebaek. 요금 is the cost of the ticket)

I took the 7:45 bus and ended up arriving before 11am. There were plenty of taxis waiting at the bus terminal, but because the farm only opened a a few weeks ago, my sweet taxi driver had no idea what I was talking about. It wasn’t showing up on his GPS either so we had an interesting time trying to get up the mountain.

Eventually we got there and he dropped me off at the first parking lot we saw (it had a large sign for the goat farm.) It turns out he could have driven me further up the hill, but the 3 minute uphill walk was gorgeous so it was no big deal.

Your first stop should be to the cafe which is on the second floor of the only building at the farm. Other than the goat houses, of course. You buy your ticket (5,000won) at the drink counter and get a wristband as your ticket.

You are immediately greeted by the sweetest dog who, despite being very dirty, was so nice to pet.

You’re free to roam about the farm and sit pretty much anywhere you’d like! If you want a picnic rental, you can get that inside and set it up at any of the three main picnic areas - or just right on the grass! The rentals range from 39,000won to 59,000won.

The goats aren’t aggressive and don’t tend to chew clothes like my petting zoo memories had me assuming. They will approach you immediately though to check if you have any goat food (which you can purchase inside)

There is also the cafe which sells plenty of baked goods like croissants and scones, along with goat shaped cookies. The most popular items include goat milk yogurt or lattes using goat milk (these goats are all dairy-goat)

The blueberry yogurt was actually quite yummy, though I’m not a huge fan of dairy other than cheese. I also bought a loaf of milk bread to bring back for Kurt and we both agreed it was delicious! They also had more substantial items like pizza.

There were toys for kids and plenty of seats, not to mention an incredible view of the valley below.

Overall, it was a beautiful day and I highly recommend it!

Be sure to check their Instagram to confirm they’ll be open the day-of in case of poor weather.

Heading home, here are the afternoon and evening times as of July 2021:
