Korea's Lavender Festival in Goseong | Hani Lavender Farm
June in Korea is an underrated month. It’s the season of roses, warm nights without the humidity of full-blown summer, and of course, lavender. In the city of Goseong, the Hani Lavender Field springs to life for the one month of purple themed fun, and I finally got to experience it.
At around 9:30am, Kaila and I took the bus from Dong Seoul to Ganseong Bus Terminal. This cost 21,000won and took a little under three hours. We hopped off the bus and found a line of taxis waiting, and took the 15-minute taxi ride over to the farm. It cost about 11,600won and we were dropped off right at the gate.
The entry fee for the field was 6,000won and at the time we arrived there was no line at all. The fields were definitely filled with people, but it wasn’t overly crowded like I feared. We went on a Thursday though, so I can’t vouch for any madness on the weekends!
The most popular thing at the farm is hands down the lavender ice cream. There was a constant long line for the dessert but the line moved quickly (almost as quickly as the ice cream melted fyi!)
The ice cream is 3,500won and tastes veeeeery faintly of lavender. Kaila also tried their lavender lemonade which was 5,000won and came with a fresh spring of lavender!
We spent about two hours at the farm wandering around the different fields. Of course lavender is the main character, but there are also fields of rye, poppies, and even a roes garden and sequoia forest! The gift shop was filled with soaps, essential oils, and plenty of lavender tea.
Overall, the farm was worth the trip and I’m so glad I was able to experience it on a clear day.
After that, we called a taxi and went toward Banam Beach. We chose it at random because we were looking for vegetarian friendly food along with a beach and it happened to fit the criteria. The taxi fee was around 10,000won again.
We had delicious makguksu at Dongmyeong Makguksu, played in the water a bit, then headed home.
The trip home from Ganseong Station cost 21,100won and took an even shorter amount of time mostly because our bus driver had the pedal to the metal the entire way back. But we arrived in one piece!
I really can’t recommend this farm highly enough. The travel cost was a bit high, but if you plan ahead and split the cost of taxis with friends, I think it’s worth it :) Sending love!
